Men's Golf Set to Close Out Regular Season at Bayou City Collegiate Classic - UTRGV Athletics

MONTGOMERY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team closes out their regular season when they compete at the 2022 Bayou City Collegiate Classic starting on Monday at Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Club. 
 
The 54-hole event, that is being hosted by Rice, Houston, and Sam Houston, will feature 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 holes on Tuesday.
 
Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Club plays 6,756 yards and is a par 72.
 
The Competition
There will be an 18-team field that will include: UTRGV, Rice, Sam Houston, Abilene Christian, Baylor, Denver, Florida Atlantic, Houston Baptist, Jacksonville State, Lamar, New Mexico State, Nicholls State, Stephen F. Austin, UT Arlington, UTEP, Utah Valley, WKU, and Houston.
 
Starting Five  
Last Time Out
UTRGV finished tied for 19^th at the Redhawk Invitational last week. The invitational was shortened to just one round after inclement weather on Monday.  
 
The Vaqueros posted a single round score of 310 as they tied with Sacramento State. 
 
Taj Sutherland and Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque finished tied for 59^th after both posted a round of 77. 
 
Leonardo Novella and Sebastian Lundberg both finished tied for 73^rd after posting a single round of 78. 
 
Tennoshin Ogawa finished tied for 86^th after posting a 79. 
 
Last Time at Bayou City Collegiate Classic
The Vaqueros didn't compete at last year's Bayou City Collegiate Invitational. 
 
Sam Houston won last year's team title with a three-round score of 835 after posting rounds of 280, 276, and 279. Sam Houston finished ahead of Florida Atlantic by 12 strokes as FAU finished with a three-round score of 847 after rounds of 282, 278, and 297. Houston and Louisiana finished tied for third three-round scores of 851. 
 
Sam Houston's Paul Chaplet won the individual title with a three-round score of 202 (-14) after posting rounds of 69, 70, and 63.
