Illini Set to Close Regular Season at Lady Buckeye Invitational - University of Illinois Athletics - Fighting Illini

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois women's golf team is set to close out its 2021-22 regular season with the 2022 Lady Buckeye Invitational, hosted by Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio on April 15-16.

THE SETTING
The Lady Buckeye Invitational will be held at The Ohio State Golf Club Scarlet Course with the course set for a par 72 and will play 6,319 yards. Located in central Columbus, The Ohio State University Golf Club is rated as one of the top collegiate courses in the nation by Golf Channel. The Ohio State University Golf Club has two 18-hole courses; the ever-popular Gray course and the renowned Scarlet course, which was recently renovated by Jack Nicklaus in 2006.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT
There will be 10 teams competing in the 54-hole tournament with 36 holes of continuous play on Friday (April 15), followed by the final 18 on Saturday (April 16). Both days will feature a 7:30 a.m. CT shotgun start.

THE FIELD
Along with the Illini, the 10-team field includes host Ohio State, Indianapolis, Kent State, Maryland, Michigan State, Nebraska, Penn State, Rutgers and Xavier.

ILLINI AT THE LADY BUCKEYE INVITATIONAL
This will be the 16th appearance for Illinois in the Lady Buckeye Invitational, with the Illini's best team finish coming as tournament champions during the 2017-18 season after registering the third-lowest 36-hole tournament score in program history with a three-over total of 579 (287-292). Along with the first-place finish, the Illini have recorded four top-five finishes, all coming in the team's last four appearances, including a fourth place showing in their last appearance during the 2018-19 season.

Individually, the Illini have had two Lady Buckeye Invitational medalists in program history, including head coach Renee Slone (79-76-75 = 230) in 1993 and former standout Grace Park (69-72 = 141).

LAST TIME OUT
The Illinois women's golf team earned its second runner-up finish in its last three tournaments with a 28-over par tournament total of 892 at the Clemson Invitational at the par 72, 6,386-yard Reserve at Lake Keowee golf course on March 25-27 and were just one stroke off tournament champion LSU, who posted a 27-over par 54-hole total of 891. Freshman Lexanne Halama turned in a career-best finish as she tied for 10th with a seven-over 223 total after carding rounds of 77-74-72. It was the first top-10 finish of her career. 

UP NEXT
The Illini next travels to Pittsburgh, Pa., for the 2022 Big Ten Championships at the Fox Chapel Golf Club on April 22-24.
