KENT, OHIO- The Golden Flashes wrapped up their 2022 spring season with their annual spring game showcase on Saturday in front of a packed Kent State Field House.

Fans were treated to an open practice and saw the team go through a wide variety of drills. The team did go through 11-on-11 and 7-on-7 drills and scenarios with both the offense and defense making some big plays. Quarterback Collin Schlee threw darts downfield to Keenan Orr and Isaac Vance, gaining over 40 yards on both plays. The running game picked up where it left off last season behind strong offensive line play.

The defense, under new defensive coordinator Jeremiah Johnson, flashed some big plays as well. The secondary broke-up several passing plays and the defense as a whole made key fourth down stops during the live drills.

While Saturday highlighted the work the Flashes have put in over the 15 spring practices, it was a pair of memorable moments that stole the show.

Kent State closed a special teams practice rotation with the announcement that sophomore kicker Andrew Glass would be put on full scholarship for the 2022 season. Glass won the job as a true freshman in 2021 and went on to produce an all-conference season. Glass tied for the MAC lead with 21 made field goals this season and has missed just three times in MAC play. He has converted all 50 of his extra points on the year. He is just the sixth Golden Flash to top 100 points in a season. Glass has also been instrumental on kick-offs, Kent State ranked seventh in the nation, allowing just 15 yards per kick return in 2021. Glass joins edge rusher Saivon Taylor-Davis, who was put on scholarship earlier in spring ball. Davis joined Kent State from Notre Dame College last season and had a strong season with 35 tackles, seven for loss and three sacks.

The showcase closed in tremendous fashion with the Flashes welcoming in the newest member of the Golden Flashes' family, Kingston. He joins the Golden Flashes through the University's partnership with Team IMPACT, a non-profit organization that pairs kids with chronic and serious illnesses and pairs them with college teams. The FlashFAST family was looking for the toughest, most resilient kid in Northeast Ohio and got just that in Kingston, who eagerly rang the victory bell to close out the spring showcase.

Head Coach Sean Lewis broke down the spring season in his annual spring press conference on Monday. The team will now return to strength and conditioning in preparation of summer camp. Kent State opens the 2022 season at Washington on Saturday, September 3rd. The five-game home slate for the Golden Flashes is set for Saturday, September 17th when they host the Long Island University Sharks.
