Orono, Maine - The University of Maine's men's cross country team loses a close one to Army for their home opener of the 2022 season. Maine had a lot of very strong performances including four men who placed in the top ten.
Freshman Evan Thorton-Shermon finished in first place overall for the men in the 8k race with a time of 24:34.8. Alec Troxell was right behind him for the Black Bears placing second with the same time of 24:34.8. Teammate Fisher Macklin grabbed fifth for Maine with a time of 25:33.3. Tristam Coffin (25:49.8) placed ninth in the meet.
Army was led by a strong showing from Erik Lara who finished third in the 8k race.
Maine men fell to Army 29-28.
Maine will compete at the Mariel Sanchez Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 11 in Hanover, N.H.
