WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Haven School District, USD 312, Board of Education has decided to close Yoder Charter School permanently at the end of the current school year.

Superintendent Craig Idacavage sent a letter to parents on Tuesday announcing the “difficult decision.”

“Please know that this decision was not taken lightly and was made with the utmost consideration for the future of our district,” he wrote.

Idacavage said the district evaluated various factors, such as enrollment trends, finances, resources, and achievement data.

“The district will continue to work out the details of this transition and share information as it becomes available,” Idacavage said.

He said the 46 students at Yoder Charter School will go to Haven Grade School and Haven Middle School, and the 10 school employees will also have positions available within the district.

Although the school will close, USD 312 will continue Little Learners PreK at Yoder. The superintendent said the district wants to increase early childhood opportunities at Yoder.
