Snow, ice-packed roads and sub-zero temps have caused several Colorado school districts to close Monday and Tuesday.
DENVER — Several schools, businesses and offices across Colorado are on delayed start, remote start or closed on Monday or Tuesday due to below-zero temperatures and snow.
Westminster Public Schools, Mapleton Public Schools, Limon Public Schools, 27J Schools, Adams County School District 14, Greeley-Evans School District 6, Weld County RE-3J, and RE-1 Valley School District are among those closed Tuesday, a day after the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
In Boulder Valley School District, the mountain schools will closed Tuesday and all other schools will be on a two-hour delay.
A Wind Chill Warning remains in effect for much of Colorado through 11 a.m. Tuesday for wind chills as low as 35 degrees below zero. The coldest wind chill values are forecast for Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
Snow will continue to fall in Colorado's mountains Monday with a chance for a few inches in the Denver metro area and eastern plains. Colorado is forecast to have one more day in the frigid Arctic airmass with highs near zero to the single digits for Denver and the east.
Tuesday will see a bitter cold start but then we’ll warm rapidly under a northwest flow finally pushing Colorado's highs above the freezing mark.
Hundreds of flights were canceled or delayed at Colorado's biggest airport on Monday as extreme winter weather moves across the state and country.
US 40 over Berthoud Pass was closed overnight Sunday into Monday after an avalanche Sunday morning.
Another disturbance will bring another round of snow to Colorado's mountains Wednesday, but this disturbance will bring a downslope component to Denver that will warm our highs into the mid 40s on Wednesday.
