Bruins legend Bobby Orr recently voiced his support for healthcare workers on the front lines of the battle against COVID-19. And now so is his 800-pound bronze statue outside TD Garden.
WBZ-TV posted a new video to its Instagram page on Wednesday that should amuse Bruins fans. At least as amused as you could be in a time like this. It's the Bobby Orr statue wearing scrubs and a mask as a tribute to the doctors and nurses fighting the novel coronavirus.

Don't care if WBZ-TV staged this whole thing. Anything that puts the Bobby Orr statue in the spotlight (without, you know, actually vandalizing it) is cool.
This video comes on the heels of the deadliest day yet for the COVID-19 outbreak in Massachusetts. The state reported 252 new deaths, its biggest single-day toll so far, and 1,963 new cases. Through Wednesday, there are 3,405 confirmed fatalities and 60,265 cases.
Cynics will say that slapping a mask and scrubs on the Bobby Orr statue does nothing to fight the virus. I would ask them to try missing the point a little more. Massachusetts and America need all the emotional lifts they can get right now. There's nothing wrong with highlighting one of Boston's greatest sports figures to do that.
