The restaurant's menu features pizzas made with the freshest ingredients, but Lowie's proudest of being one of the few places in the area offering authentic Chicago deep-dish pies."It's the real deal," she said of her favorite menu item.Lowie, who opened the popular Coffee Underground at 1 East Coffee Street in downtown Greenville back in 1995, said she wanted to try something new."I worked at a Chicago pizza place while I was going to UGA," Lowie said. "So, it was always something in the back of my mind--it just felt natural."Five years later, she said it's a combination of factors that led to the decision: staffing issues, more pizza competition and the need for work/life balance. Lowie said they made it through the pandemic "just fine" because people were ordering takeout more. She also said last year was "great," but this year has been "very slow.""The work/life balance is the main thing," Lowie said. She said Nealy works at Lockheed Martin during the day, then works at the restaurant at night while she divides her time between Coffee Underground and World Piece."I'm looking forward to catching my breath," she said. "And getting to know each other again. World Piece serves the last pie slice Saturday, closing at 9 p.m.
