A beloved Jefferson Parish bakery is closing its doors for good before the start of 2024.
In a post thanking its customers, La Petite Sophie Patisserie announced it would close on Dec. 30 after about three years in business.
Owner Jeff Becnel named his Jefferson Highway store after his daughter and was the sole baker.
Running the show by himself and a "difficult business terrain that all small food service businesses are facing" were among the reasons that led up to Becnel's decision to close.
Becnel has been a chef in the New Orleans metro area for two decades.
"This is one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made & is why I tried so hard to hold things together as a one baker bakery the last 3 years," Becnel said in the patisserie's social media post.
Known for its croissants, kouign amann, king cake and more, La Petite Sophie's closure disappointed customers with its closure announcement.
The question of many users across Facebook and Instagram was: Will they be able to buy Becnel's pastries at farmers' markets as loyal customers had done before and while the shop in River Ridge was open?
Becnel responded to one customer and said there are no plans yet, but it could be possible later.
