Just how close is the gap between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles?
The NFC East rivals finished just two games apart, the Eagles finishing 14-3 and the Cowboys finishing 12-5. The bigger difference might be that the Eagles were a couple of plays away from winning a Super Bowl while the Cowboys fell in the divisional round to the 49ers.
Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence doesn’t think there is a big gap.
He told The Associated Press’ Rob Maadi it wasn’t anything the Cowboys couldn’t close in the upcoming season.
“I don’t feel like it’s a huge gap at all,” Lawrence said. “I feel like it comes down to certain details. Not just the scheme, but also your locker room. I feel like through this time right now when we’re headed to training camp, we made those adjustments, we learned those different things that we need to learn about our teammates so we can fully function the way we should out there on the field.”
The case for the Cowboys: they made significant changes by moving on from Kellen Moore, adding OC Brian Schottenheimer and having Mike McCarthy call the plays. Dallas also brought in Brandin Cooks and Stephon Gilmore and drafted the likes of Mazi Smith and DeMarvion Overshown. Sixth-rounder Deuce Vaughn is impressing Dak Prescott already, as well.
The case for the Eagles: Jalen Hurts is still wearing green and Philadelphia added former Georgia teammates Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith.
Both teams, presumably, got better. Did the gap close?
Lawrence didn’t think it was that big of a gap anyway.
