San Antonio residents spending time in the city’s Far Northside should prepare for a bit of traffic or just avoid the area altogether. A notice from the Texas Department of Transportation, better known as TxDOT, says motorists should expect closures this weekend as part of the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project.
TxDOT will close both westbound and eastbound lanes on Loop 1604 at Blanco Road beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, March 24, impacting entrance and exit ramps located near the Vineyard Shopping Center. As long as the weather cooperates with the work plans, the closure will last until 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 25.
The closure will allow for work to be done on the bridge that runs northbound at Blanco Road, according to the release. During the closures, motorists will be redirected to the access roads along Loop 1604.
Though the closures will only be for a short stretch of the citywide highway at Blanco Road, it is likely to cause delays in the high-traffic area located not far from major roads like Huebner Road and N.W. Military Hwy, as well as popular spots especially busy on the weekends.
Now, make things easier on everyone and try to use your turn signal to merge to avoid headaches and a further slowdown in traffic. Remember, patience is a virtue. Drive safe, San Antonio!
