Keep Citi Field name — and close Jumaane's $5M office - New York Post

patunganaja.blogspot.com

In the latest sign that his office is a worthless appendix of city government, Public Advocate Jumaane Williams has joined a crusade to get “Citi” out of the Citi Field name.

The reason: Citibank’s supposed role in “financing polluters and profiting from climate chaos.”

OK, Mets owner Steve Cohen could afford to eat the $400 million over 20 years that the bank’s paying for the name.

But why should he?

More important, damning banks for financing carbon-based energy is nuts.

The world is decades (at least) away from having enough affordable and reliable alternative energy to do without oil, natural gas or even coal.

Yes, those fuels contribute to climate change — but that threat isn’t remotely catastrophic, despite the endless hype.

Anyway, by dabbling in this nonsense Williams mainly highlights the emptiness of his day job, which the NYPD-defund fanatic mostly does from his home behind the gates of Fort Hamilton — where he likely uses fossil fuels to heat his home, cook his meals and power his city-funded SUV.

Williams and his staff have been out of their Centre Street office for months since the pandemic struck, with dozens still working from home.

It’s past time for a referendum to abolish the $5 million-a-year Office of the Public Advocate — and, ideally, devote that funding to the police department. The crime-plagued city can get a lot more use from adding cops than it does from Jumaane.

Adblock test (Why?)
