CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Karen Small’s acclaimed Ohio City restaurant Flying Fig will close on Saturday, Feb. 26, then become a new concept that will open this spring or summer.

Small shared the news in a press release, stating that the new concept will be run with Jill Davis, the owner of Toast in Gordon Square.

“I am incredibly grateful to the community for its support of the Fig during the last 23 years. I have profound gratitude for the entire team here at the Fig who made this restaurant a local treasure, beloved by many,” Small said.

The Flying Fig made its name for its farm-to-table approach, featuring in-season and local produce in many of its dishes. In 2018, Small was a semifinalist for a James Beard award.

Though the Flying Fig will be no more, the new concept and its name will be announced in March.

“The new concept has been an exciting journey and the culmination of a lifelong dream, long-held interests and changes in the neighborhood,” Small said in the press release. “Jill and I share this new and imaginative vision that will be true to our shared mission to support sustainable agriculture. Our collaboration will be an awesome addition to the neighborhood.”

Along with this news, Small said that her long-awaited breakfast restaurant Juneberry Table is slated to open in spring 2022, in the former Jackflaps restaurant space.
