A longtime restaurant will close, making way for a “new, modern dining option” in Tualatin.
Hayden’s Lakefront Grill, a New American restaurant connected to the Century Hotel at Tualatin Commons, announced Monday that it will close after 23 years in operation.
The restaurant will serve its last meals on Saturday, Feb. 26, and will be replaced by Brix Tavern South, an offshoot of the upscale Pearl District tavern. The transition is “an exciting new chapter” and will offer “a new, modern dining option to the Tualatin Commons,” a Hayden’s Lakefront Grill news release said.
“As longtime members of the Tualatin community, it was important to us that we found the right operator to open in the Hayden’s building and look forward to seeing the transition that will take place,” Charlie Sitton, co-owner of Hayden’s Lakefront Grill, said in a news release. “We also want to express our gratitude for all of the support we have received from our patrons, our staff and our community here in Tualatin over the last 23 years.”
Sitton, a former Oregon State University basketball star, took over Hayden’s with his father-in-law, Don Roberts, in 2008. The pair had previously owned a 51% share in the restaurant since it opened in 1999, but took full control after the business downfall of veteran restaurant consultant Bill Hayden, who opened the Tualatin restaurant and gave it his name.
The restaurant did not say why it decided to close after more than two decades in operation, but the transformation into Brix Tavern South appears to be swift: The new tavern is expected to open this spring, and the entire Hayden’s staff has been asked to stay, the restaurant said.
Fans of the food at Hayden’s won’t likely find the transition too jarring, either. The Brix Tavern is known for its burgers, pizza and fish, which closely mirrors the most recent menus at Hayden’s.
“The team at Hayden’s has created a legacy of quality food, a welcoming atmosphere and a high level of service throughout their long tenure,” Mark Byrum, founder and CEO of the Urban Restaurant Group, which owns the Brix Tavern South, said in the news release. “We are very excited to build upon that legacy and add a modern flair with the opening of Brix Tavern South later this spring.”
