WHAT'S NEXT: For the second week in a row the Broncos face a big series. One that pits the top two teams in the Mountain West standings against each other as first-place Boise State (6-0) heads to Las Vegas to take on the second-place UNLV Rebels (4-0), the only two undefeated teams remaining in the conference. The first contest will be at 7:30 p.m. (MT) on Friday followed by the rematch at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, both matches will be in Cox Pavilion at UNLV. 

FOLLOW THE ACTION: COVID-19 safety measures are in place at Las Vegas which means no fans will be allowed to attend this week's matches at Las Vegas. The only way to follow this week's action is by going to the volleyball schedule on BroncoSports.com and clicking on the appropriate "Live Scoring" and/or "Live Stream" links for the particular match you want to follow. The live stream is free of charge courtesy of the Mountain West Network.

SCOUTING UNLV: The Rebels have won their first four matches of the season, including a sweep at MW perennial-power Colorado State last weekend. They return five starters plus the libero, 11 letterwinners and added five newcomers. They went 20-11 overall and 15-3 in MW play to place third in 2020. 

They are led by Preseason All-MW honoree Mariena Hayden (outside hitter) who is averaging 3.71 kills per set, fourth in the MW. As a team, UNLV leads the MW in hitting percentage (.291), kills per set (14.93), assists per set (13.71), services per set (2.07) and digs per set (16.79). The Rebels are ranked seventh nationally for assists per set, ninth in kills per set and 12th in hitting percentage.

SCOUTING BOISE STATE: Boise State has also opened the 2021 spring campaign undefeated at 6-0 and is coming off home sweeps over Utah State (Feb. 12-13) and Wyoming last weekend. The Broncos went 18-12 overall in 2019 and 10-8 in conference to place fourth, they also advanced to the NIVC. The Blue and Orange return five starters and the libero, as well as 11 members of the 2019 squad. In addition to the 11 returners, Boise State added four recruits to this year's team. 

Boise State is led by Preseason All-MW honoree and current reigning MW Offensive Player of the Week Lauren Ohlinger who leads the MW and is nationally ranked in three categories: kills per set at 5.0 (NCAA 5th), attacks per set at 13.24 (NCAA 2nd) and points per set at 5.55 (NCAA 6th). As a team, Boise State leads the MW and is ranked sixth nationally for blocks per set (3.19), is second in MW for hitting percentage (.247), third in MW for opponents' hitting percentage (.170), second in MW and 19th in NCAA for kills per set (14.29), second in MW for assists per set (12.90) and digs (16.00 dps).

MW PRESEASON POLL: The Mountain West Preseason Coaches Poll projected Boise State to place fourth and UNLV second. 

THE BOISE STATE Vs. UNLV SERIES: This rivalry enters its 21st and 22nd meetings all-time with Boise State leading 12-8 to date. The Broncos also lead the series in matches played at Las Vegas by a 7-3 margin; however, UNLV swept the Broncos last year.  

SHAWN GARUS RECORDS 200TH WIN: Boise State head coach Shawn Garus recorded his 200th win at Boise State when the Broncos swept Utah State (Feb. 12-13) to reach the milestone with the second victory. Garus, who is in his 12th season with the program, currently stands at 202-144, his career record stands at 3010-263 in 20 years. Garus ranks second in total wins in program history, out of 10 coaches all-time. At Boise State, he has recorded nine winning seasons overall, including an active streak of six straight. He has three seasons (2010, 2015, 2016) with 20-plus wins.

WEEK THREE RECAP: Boise State closed a four-match homestand last week by sweeping Wyoming 3-0, 3-1. The Broncos won the first match relatively easily, then was forced to a fourth set in match two after winning the first two sets. Boise State hit .287 with 115 kills, 10 service aces and 19.5 blocks on the week, while Wyoming countered at .169 percent hitting with 77 kills, seven service aces and 15 blocks.

WEEK THREE LEADERS: Lauren Ohlinger led the Broncos overall on the week hitting .351, tallying a team-high 53 kills with 25 digs and three blocks. She had 19 kills in match one, then tied the school record for kills in a match with 34 — second-most in a league match in MW history — in the second encounter with the Cowgirls. She also recorded double-doubles in both contests.

Jessica Donahue hit 30 percent for 15 kills with nine blocks, while Kayly Pau added 20 kills and eight blocks. Danielle Boss led the offense from the setter position recording a team-high 83 assists, 24 digs and five blocks.

BRONCO SEASON LEADERS: Lauren Ohlinger is a six-rotation player and leads the team overall with 105 kills (5.0 kps), 57 digs (2.71 dps) and 17 blocks (0.81 bps). Freshman Kayly Pau is second in kills with 61 (2.90 kps) to go with 14 blocks (0.67). Jessica Donahue is hitting .358 — sixth in MW — for 51 kills (2.43 kps) with 39 blocks, she leads the MW and ranks sixth nationally for blocks per set at 1.86 bps.
 
OHLINGER NAMED MW OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Boise State sophomore outside hitter Lauren Ohlinger was named the Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Week for volleyball after leading the Broncos to a two-match sweep over Wyoming this past weekend. Ohlinger hit 35.1 percent and had a team-best 53 kills over the weekend, highlighted by 34 kills on Saturday to tie the school's all-time record for a match, it was also the second-best mark during league play in MW history. In addition, she had double-doubles during both contests.

BOSS RANKED SEVENTH FOR ASSISTS: Danielle Boss entered the season ranked eighth during the rally scoring era (2001 to present) at Boise State for career assists with 1,767, she had 1,113 as a sophomore in 2019. She has now moved into seventh with 1,850 overall, 13 short of moving into sixth. 

BOSS DISTRIBUTING THE BALL: Danielle Boss enters the week leading the Mountain West and 41st nationally for assists per set 10.48, her total of 220 is a MW high. 

DONAHUE RANKED SIXTH NATIONALLY: Jessica Donahue is currently ranked sixth nationally and first in the MW for blocks per set at 1.86, her current total is 39. 

DONAHUE ANCHORS THE BLUE WALL: Jessica Donahue started the season ranked fourth during the rally scoring era (2001 to present) at Boise State for career blocks with 311. She now sits at 337 overall heading into the UNLV series. The junior tallied 163 in 2019, third most all-time and six short of tying the school record for a season. The 163 blocks also led the MW and was ranked 11th nationally.

CASILLAS SERVING UP ACES: Sophomore Allison Casillas is currently ranked third in the MW for service aces per set at 0.52. The native of Fontana, Calif., recorded a season-high five versus Utah State on Feb. 13.
