The Pacific Supermarket at 2900 Alemany Blvd. in San Francisco. The grocery store is set to close its only San Francisco outpost this year.
Andrew D. on YelpPacific Supermarket, at 2900 Alemany Blvd., is permanently closing its San Francisco storefront and plans to terminate all its staff, as first reported by San Francisco Business Times.
A Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification shared with SFGATE reveals that Pacific Supermarket will terminate its 59 employees on March 10, including 16 cashiers and 10 grocery clerks, among other positions. The notice was signed by Pacific Supermarket management.
San Francisco Business Times reports that Pacific Supermarket informed its employees about the upcoming layoffs sometime this week. It’s unclear if Pacific Supermarket offered to transfer current San Francisco employees to its other Bay Area storefronts. The grocery store has two locations in South San Francisco, as well as one on the island of Oahu in Hawaii.
Property listings show that Pacific Supermarket's retail space, which is 27,575 square feet, will be available for lease beginning on April 15. San Francisco Business Times reports that a grocery tenant is preferred.
The property at 2900 Alemany Blvd. was built in 1961, according to San Francisco Planning. Before Pacific Supermarket opened in the early 1990s, the site was home to a defunct QFI grocery store, which had additional markets in San Francisco.
SFGATE reached out to Pacific Supermarket for comment but did not hear back by publication.
