Eastern Washington volleyball played its first game of its back-to-back homestand, hosting Montana on Thursday night. The Eagles battled the Grizzlies in a tight contest, but ultimately came up short, 1-3[25-23, 23-25, 23-25, 13-25] in the game.

"I thought we played really well for three sets. The fourth set got away from us," head coach Jon Haruguchi said. "I thought we played a really steady game of volleyball. Sometimes it just doesn't go your way and tonight was one of them. We train for situations like this where we have to get some separation. Honestly, those are fun sets to be a part of any time. I like how our team was working through the first three sets. We have to figure out how to navigate a situation like what happened in the fourth."

Alyssa Radke led the team with 20 kills on 46 total attacks.

"I'm super proud of us. We've been working on pursuing the ball no matter what and out-hustling the other team," Radke said. "There's nothing more exciting, even on the bench, seeing those hustle plays and girls flying over the bench. I feel like we took a step up on that today. It's starting to click for me. The connection with Lindsey and I is working really well. I can't say it's all me. If we didn't have the amazing hitters all over the court, then I wouldn't get the one-ups on the blocks, or other opportunities. I can't take all the credit."

Eastern and Montana battled early for the advantage, as both teams had found their swings. Ka'ehukaiiha'amaina'e Keala was the Eagles source of offense early scoring two kills to keep the team at pace with the Grizzlies. The two teams were tied at 16 before Eastern put together a 4-1 stretch to lead by three. Sage Brustad found her swing during the stretch, accounting for two kills. Montana quickly responded and tied the set at 20, then quickly took a 22-20 lead. The Eagles countered with a 3-0 run, led by a kill and a block from Renata Lopez Morales. Eastern held on and won the set 25-23 and had a 1-0 lead in the game.

Eastern hit .150 in the opening set, with Montana being held to only a .051 percentage.

Moving to the second set, the teams continued to be evenly matched, with neither building any separation. After being tied at six, Eastern had a 6-3 stretch to build a three-point lead. The Eagles extended the lead to 15-11 on two kills from Radke, adding a block assist with Lopez Morales. Montana responded with a 3-0 run to pull within one of Eastern. The Eagles stayed focused and continued to get kills from Radke, Sadie Bacon and Keala. They would hold a 19-16 lead before the Grizzlies pulled it back to one. Montana began to score effectively and pulled ahead of Eastern at 22-21. The Grizzlies continued score and won the set, 25-23, knotting up the game at one.

With the score tied at 10, Eastern jumped ahead by two, only for Montana to rip off a 4-0 burst to flip the script. The Grizzlies continued to stay ahead, but the Eagles were never far behind.
