SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Middle Tennessee volleyball team wrapped up their first tournament of the 2022 season by blanking Nevada 3-0 at The Nest. Seniors Kayla Henley and Kaylee Oscarson helped set fire to their opposition, earning them Sacramento State Invitational All-Tournament honors.
The Blue Raiders (2-1, 0-0 C-USA) didn't give the Nevada Wolf Pack (0-3, 0-0 MWC) a moment of hope on Saturday afternoon. After going down 0-2 early to Sacramento State the night before, MTSU has gone on to win six sets in a row seeming to have found a rhythm. The first two sets including attack percentages of .000 and -.261 for MT. The Blue Raiders out blocked the Wolf Pack 11 to three, led by senior Dasia Smith who had eight total blocks. The 'Boro squad also led in attack percentage with .272.
By the Numbers
.261: Oscarson leads the Blue Raiders with an attack percentage of .261 through the first weekend. The senior also leads the team in solo blocks with four.
.70: Graduate student Chen Abramovich leads Middle Tennessee with a .70 service aces per set percentage through three matches. Senior Marley Banton and freshman Adri Rhoda are not far behind with percentages of .55 and .50 respectively.
23.0: Middle Tennessee's block set up extremely well down the last two matches. On Saturday the Blue Raiders racked up 11.0 after racking up 12.0 against the Hornets.
90: Banton hit home two more service aces against Nevada, putting her at 90 in her career. She is now sitting in second place in the 25-point rally scoring era for career aces.
Blue Raider Notes
- Banton moved past Izabela Kozon for career aces in the 25-point era and now sits 15 service aces from Chelsea Ross who had 115 from 2012-15.
The Blue Raiders are heading to Oxford, Ohio for the Miami Ohio Tournament with three matches to play on Friday, September 2 and Saturday, September 3. The first match of the weekend will be against Bellarmine at 2:30 p.m. CT on Friday.
