OLEAN, N.Y. – La Salle women's basketball pulled ahead by six points three times in the final frame, but a 10-0 run for St. Bonaventure through the final 2:29 of play put the Bonnies ahead 61-57 to end the night.
La Salle now sits at 11-7 overall on the season and 4-2 in conference play. St. Bonaventure improves to 10-8 on the season and 2-5 in the Atlantic 10.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- La Salle held St. Bonaventure to just two points while recording seven of its own through the first three minutes of the frame. The Bonnies held the 20-6 advantage through the remainder of the frame, with nine of its 20 coming from the line, to gain a nine-point advantage over the Explorers at the end of the first quarter, 22-13.
- A Claire Jacobs 3-pointer to start the second quarter shifted the momentum and started the Explorers on an 8-2 run through the first four minutes to come within three points of the lead, 24-21. La Salle finished the remainder of the frame on a 6-4 run to remain within just one point heading into the second half, 28-27.
- Molly Masciantonio knocked one down to start the third and give La Salle its first lead since the first quarter, 29-28. The Bonnies mounted an 8-0 run to pull ahead by seven, 36-29, with just under six remaining. St. Bonaventure held the Explorers to just five points through the rest of the frame to end the quarter with a five-point lead, 41-36.
- The Explorers put together a 7-0 run in the second minute of the quarter complete with a Kayla Spruill 3-pointer to pull ahead 46-44 and force a St. Bonaventure timeout with 6:59 left in the frame. La Salle pulled ahead by as many as six over the next four minutes but a 3-point bucket paired with four made baskets from the line through the final two minutes of play was the difference maker for the Bonnies claiming victory, 61-57.
- Spruill and Masciantonio led the offensive effort for the Explorers. Spruill knocked down 9-of-15 from the field, 3-of-8 from deep and 1-of-2 from the line for 22 points. Masciantonio put up 11 points on 3-of-10 shooting, 1-of-7 from the long range and a perfect 4-of-4 from the line.
- Gabby Crawford pulled down a team-high 10 boards.
- The Bonnies won the battle of the boards 45-38 while the Explorers dominated the turnover battle 9-19.
- La Salle struggled from the long range recording its lowest 3-point field goal percentage of the season, 17.9%.
- St. Bonaventure held the advantage at the charity stripe shooting 21-of-28 while the La Salle knocked down just eight of its 16 chances.
- La Salle held the advantage in points off turnovers (19-13) and second chance points (14-9). The teams remained even in points in the paint with 28 each.
- St. Bonaventure continues to hold the advantage in the all-time series when playing at home, 11-6.
- This marks just the fourth time this season the Explorers opponent has out-shot them from the long range.
- Spruill has now reached double-digits in 13 games this season and has recorded 20+ in five.
- The 10 boards mark a new season-high for Crawford.
- Masciantonio's 11 points ties her season-high and marks her fourth 10+ point game. This is the second game this season the senior has shot 4-of-4 from the line.
- The loss snaps La Salle's three-game victory streak.
- This is just the fourth game this season in which La Salle has scored under 60 points. The Explorers are 0-4 when scoring between 50-59.
- The Explorers hit the road again on Sunday, Jan. 30 to take on Duquesne at 2 p.m.
