Staff reports  |  Wichita Falls Times Record News

Wichita Falls police announced Friday that the horse honoring slain teen Lauren Landavazo has been found.

The memorial statue, part of the city's Mane Event displays, was stolen from the grounds of McNiel Middle School Oct. 1. Landavazo was shot and killed in 2016 walking home from school.

Koty Lott was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Landavazo, 13 at the time of her death, and 20 years for the aggravated assault involving Makayla Smith, who survived being shot on that September 2016 afternoon.

The WFPD received a Crime Stoppers tip Friday regarding the stolen Lauren Landavazo Memorial Horse statue, named "Forever," according to a news release. Investigating detectives recovered the statue from a barn located on FM 2393 in Clay County. There are five suspects.

No arrests have been made at this time.

In the days after the horse was stolen, local officials, a business owner and political candidates donated to a growing reward for information leading to its recovery. The reward got as high as $11,500.
