Life-sized horse statue has neighbors saddling up for a debate about its safety - WKRC TV Cincinnati

LEBANON, Ohio (WKRC) - A life-sized horse statue has made neighbors in Lebanon "saddle up" for a debate.

The two options, "Yay or Neigh."

Some said that the statue along Ohio State Route 48 is too close to the road for drivers’ comfort. It’s on private property, but there are growing calls to move it.

Mahoning Valley Farm isn't taking it down. The family said it's been there for about three months. They put it up so drivers could find their driveway better, plus they're a horse farm. The horse that has a "cult following" for its seasonal decorations also has people long in the face.

That's because it's about five feet from the road leaving drivers to wonder if a real horse is about to gallop into the street.

"Coming from each way, it's a clear, straight shot. You're honestly, if you come down the hill, you can see it straight down the hill and if you come around the curve, you have enough time that you're still going to be able to see it without having to swerve. So, I think it's just a little overdramatic," said a spokeswoman for Mahoning Valley Farm.

The farm has received numerous comments online about drivers braking suddenly or swerving before realizing it's a statue.

Mahoning Valley Farm has caught heat from drivers complaining about the horse standing so close to the road and at a curve. Jessica Rene agrees that it's a concern.

"If you're driving and you see something that looks like it is going to come out into traffic, you have seconds to maybe make a life or death situation," said Lebanon resident Rene.

She suggested moving it away from the road or putting a business sign to show where the driveway is instead.

The farm dressed the statue up for the holidays and might keep doing that so it doesn't look so real.

"We were going to do St. Patrick's Day and then Easter and then probably like Fourth of July. Something like that and then maybe Memorial Day," Mahoning Valley Farm said.

Neighbor Wendy York said it brings a smile to her face.

"So in response to haters, I would just say try to find some enjoyment in life and not harp on little things like that. It's a decorative horse," York said.

Mahoning Valley Farm will be dressing the statue up for St. Patrick's Day. They said if you'd like to take a photo or see it in person, they're on Ohio 48 just past Hidden Valley Orchards.

Clearcreek Township Police haven't received any reports about it being a safety hazard.

The department said that since the statue is on private land, there's nothing they can do.
