ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Saratoga County has called on the city of Albany to allow them to take possession of the Philip Schuyler statue. Clifton Park Town Supervisor Phil Barrett spoke directly to the Albany Common Council on Thursday asking for the statue.
Saratoga County wants the statue relocated to the village of Schuylerville, which is named after Philip Schuyler. City of Albany crews took down the statue outside of city hall in June 2023.
One of Barrett’s main points was to help commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Battles of Saratoga in 2027.
“Gen. Schuyler has a tremendous legacy in Saratoga County, which would be a perfect location for the statue, representing Philip Schuyler’s incredible contributions to our country, state and region,” Barrett said.
Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan’s office said the city has no plans of giving away the Schuyler statue and will soon form a commission to help them find a new home for the statue.
