Glen Rock teens destroy school's panther statue, planters hours after graduation - NorthJersey.com

Dozens of teenagers who gathered in Glen Rock the night after graduation destroyed the high school's panther statue and damaged planters, police said.

Beginning at 3 a.m. Friday and continuing through dawn, large groups of youths, as many as 100, gathered in different parts of the borough, Glen Rock police said.

Police said NJ Transit was approached for assistance Friday to stop train traffic on the Bergen County line at one point because of a large gathering on the tracks. However, a spokesperson for NJ Transit said train service was not disrupted by the incident.

At 7:30 a.m. Glen Rock High School security reported damaged planters and knocked over chairs, which had been on the football field for the school's Thursday graduation.

One of the school's panther statues was also taken, Detective James Calaski said. It was later returned to the house of a resident who had put out an offer to bring it back to the school, but it was destroyed.

Calaski said the school hasn't yet provided a total account of the damage .

The investigation is still ongoing, and no arrests have been made yet, Calaski said.
