PHILADELPHIA – After a 3-1 series win over St. Bonaventure, the 24-13 La Salle University baseball team will head to Towson for a midweek matchup on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. and the game will be streamed.

LAST TIME OUT

  • The Explorers won a four-game Atlantic 10 series against St. Bonaventure over the weekend by outscoring the Bonnies 21-8.
  • La Salle solidified its best A-10 start in school history with a 10-2 win on Friday. Senior Colin Scanlon matched his career high with nine strikeouts to improve to 5-2 on the year.
  • On Saturday, junior Nick O'Day had four hits as the Explorers split a seven-inning doubleheader with the Bonnies. Freshman Frank Elissalt improved to 5-1 on the season with a win in game one, allowing no earned runs and only three hits.
  • The Explorers clinched the series on Sunday with an 8-2 takedown of St. Bonaventure behind strong pitching from sophomore Gabe Rappa. The lefty threw a career-high 8.0 innings and allowed no earned runs while striking out seven.
ON A HISTORIC PACE
  • The Explorers are doing damage against Atlantic 10 competition unlike any other team before it in the program. At 9-3, it's the best A-10 start in school history. La Salle now sits in first place in the Atlantic 10 standings.
  • The win on Sunday put La Salle at 24-13 overall, which is the best start through 37 games in school history. Not even the 1985 team (that won a school-record 31 games and made the NCAA tourney) won 24 games in this many attempts.
  • La Salle has taken the road warrior mentality this year with a 13-6 record as the away team, including 11-3 over the last 14 away games.
  • Redshirt sophomore Nick Di Vietro has been on base a lot this season. The outfielder ranks seventh in the nation with 1.07 walks per game and is 12th in the country with an impressive .520 on base percentage. He had a 20-game reached-base streak going earlier this year and is batting a team-best .344 this season.
MOVIN' ON UP
  • Ryan Guckin now has 43 career doubles, which ranks eighth in program history. He needs just three more to move into seventh place all-time. Guckin has 15 doubles this season, just two away from being tied for seventh. The first baseman also has 107 career RBI, just 12 shy of 10th on the program's career list.
  • Jack Cucinotta now has 39 career stolen bases, moving him up to seventh on the program's career ranks. He needs just one more to tie John Malloy for sixth place all-time. The center fielder has 21 stolen bases this season, which ranks ninth in the nation and tied for eighth in program history.
  • Frank Elissalt has 72 strikeouts this season, needing only three more to reach seventh, while five more would put him in a tie for fourth place. The school record is 107 by Will Fleck in 1997.
  • Colin Scanlon moved into 10th place on the team's career strikeout list with 147 to his name after fanning nine on Friday. He needs 35 more to reach Jeff La Porta in ninth with 182.
  • Tatem Levins has 97 career RBIs to his name, just three away from 100 in only his second full season with the team after the shortened 2020 campaign. He is already tied for ninth in single-season team history with 50 RBI during his 2019 Freshman All-American season. Levins also has 35 career doubles, only four away from 10th in the program.
SCOUTING TOWSON
  • Towson is 15-24 this season and 5-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association. While the Tigers have struggled on the road (6-18), they have been better at home (9-6).
  • The Tigers have played a lot of similar opponents to the Explorers. They split a four-game series at Hofstra this past weekend, a team the Explorers opened the season with. Other common opponents include a 2-2 split with UMass (La Salle won, 4-0), a 3-1 series win over George Mason (La Salle split, 2-2), and a 3-1 home series win over Delaware.
  • Danny Becerra leads the team with a .274 batting average and has 15 RBI. As a team, the Tigers are batting just .223 while opponents are hitting .287 against them.
  • Teddy Blumenauer (0-0) is the projected starting pitcher for the Tigers. This will be his first start after allowing eight runs over 3.2 innings in four relief appearances. He'll match up with La Salle projected starter Joe Messina (0-0, 3.24 ERA), who fired 5.1 innings of relief last week at Penn in an outing where he gave up just one run on five hits.
