Statue of Liberty climber wants supporters to attend her bail hearing - New York Post

An immigrant rights activist convicted of climbing the Statue of Liberty last summer took to social media calling for supporters to attend her bail revocation hearing set for Friday.

Therese “Patricia” Okoumou — who was arrested a second time last week for pulling another political stunt in Austin, Texas — made the Instagram post Tuesday evening after a Manhattan federal judge issued an order setting a bail hearing in light of her new arrest.

“The Justice Department is going hard after me. They want me in jail,” Okoumou said in the video.

Prosecutors earlier Tuesday asked Manhattan federal Judge Gabriel Gorenstein to revoke Okoumou’s bail in light of the Texas incident.

“This Friday at 2:00 p.m. 500 Pearl Street, please I beg you to come,” Okoumou said in the post.

The 44-year-old former personal trainer also held a stack of postcards that she said “are meant to go to the US Attorney Geoffrey Berman.

“The attorney who is responsible for my case. The one we are asking to drop the charges against me.”

Okoumou also asked for crowdfunding in the caption of the Instagram post, with a link to her GoFundMe page.

She was convicted on misdemeanor charges in December for scaling the national monument. She faces one and a half years in prison at her March 19 sentencing.

Last Wednesday, Okoumou was arrested in Texas for climbing a four-story building that houses immigrant children who have been separated from their parents.

She hung a banner on the building that said, “Abolish ICE” and then refused to come down for hours
